Training to Train and Assess MTB Leaders

Training to Train and Assess MTB Leaders

Quick bit of news... I've started on the path to becoming a tutor for Mountain Bike Coaching UK. Hopefully in a year's time I'll be in a position to train and assess the Trail Leader and Technical Trail Leader courses that I started my journey to my current qualification of Level 3 Mountain Bike Coach.

This is exciting for me. I’ve absolutely loved the journey so far. I love teaching people, and time spent mountain biking is always a joy.

I’d like to think that those of you who have trained with me can tell how much I get out of the experience. The sense of satisfaction from helping someone to improve their riding or gain more confidence on their bike is a beautiful thing. It will be nice to help other potential coaches along that path (even if they might end up being competitors… oh hang on).

I’m also hoping to go through assessment this year for the ABMG (Association of British Mountain Bike Guides). This is a new and prestigious award and only a handful of leaders in the UK have qualified so far. The standard is super high, so it’ll be a feather in the cap if I can achieve it.

Why bother going for all these qualifications? I believe in trying to be the best coach/guide I can be. Just spending time with other coaches and guides on these courses is great. We get to share ideas and methods of helping you (our clients) to improve your riding.

2018 was a good year for me. I’m looking forward to taking it further in 2019. I look forward to seeing you on the trails.
